ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

CENTRALLY SPONSORED SCHEME-ENHANCING SKILL DEVELOPMENT INFRASTRUCTURE IN NORTH EAST STATES AND SIKKIM

Construction of 2 (two) new Industrial Training Institutes in the State, one at Dimapur and the other at Peren has been completed and establishment of 2 new ITIs in Longleng and Kiphire is under process.

GITI, Kiphire was made operational utilizing a temporary building by introducing two trades Carpenter & Sewing Technology during the current academic session onwards.

PRADHAN MANTRI KAUSHAL VIKAS YOJANA  (PMKVY) – STATE MANAGED COMPONENT

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

Under the Centrally Sponsored State Managed component of PMKVY, till date 8577 youths have been trained and 5244 were placed. Currently 7882 youths are undergoing training in various training centers.

MOBILE SKILL MORUNG

The “Accelerated Access to Skills Training and Livelihood Opportunities for the Rural Youths in Nagaland” through MOBILE SKILL MORUNG was flagged off by the Hon’ble Chief minister on the 13th of November, 2020 with an objective to not only to ensure access to skill development especially for the rural youths and women but also creating equitable access to skill training for the rural youths, cost-savings in implementation of skilling programs, focus on tapping in to the rural economy as a source of sustainable livelihood and aligning with different skilling programs to enhance the skills of the rural youths.

The Mobile Skill Morung is a self contained TRAINING WORKSHOP ON WHEELS equipped with machineries and equipments that can travel with trainers across the State to skill the rural youths and women for sustainable livelihood. Mobile Skill Morung is being funded under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, “Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion” (SANKALP)

MULTI SKILLED HANDYMAN: DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO MEET THE RURAL/LOCAL DEMANDS

The Multi Skilled handyman program was launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on the 13th of November, 2020 with the objective to ensure that every trainee is skilled in 3 or 4 job roles to earn their livelihood. The program will provide skilling in multiple job roles for generating multi-skilled handymen to meet the local human resource demands of a village / cluster of villages. The District Skills Committee along with the community is directly involved in identification of the demands and mobilization of the youths who can be skilled to take the role of multi-skilled handyman.

Through this initiative, 200 youths will be skilled as multi-skilled handyman. The first phase of 40 youths from Chiephobozou, Kohima,  40 youths from Changtongnya, Mokokchung and 40 from Tuensang were trained in the job role of Plumbing, Tiles Laying and Electrician.

RECRUIT TRAIN AND DEPLOY

The construction industry is being engaged under the recruit, train and deploy model to train the youths in live construction sites on industry relevant practices for livelihood opportunities where, currently, 250 youths are undergoing training in various construction sites.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF NAGALAND POST COVID-19

As the world shifts towards rebuilding its economy that has been severely affected due to the widespread pandemic and months-long lockdown and the resulting massive job losses and slashed incomes, the challenge faced across the State of Nagaland is to create enough livelihood opportunities for unemployed youths including youths who have returned back to the State.

Through North East Council (NEC) funding the Department will be implementing projects to Train Youths/Entrepreneurs in Maintenance of Tools & Machineries, Skill Training on Machineries, Processing & Business management and Technicians in the Construction Sector.

The Nagaland Joblinks portal conceptualized by the High Powered Committee headed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio was launched by the Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Department on 26th June, 2020

The portal acts as a platform to connect job seekers with Employers in Private sector establishment.
