Springshed Management

Under the slogan ‘Think Blue: Make every drop count’, the following activities were initiated: Successful completion of NMHS action research project in two watersheds, namely; Khrimtomi watershed in Zunheboto district and Chizami watershed in Phek district. Through the project, water security plans have been developed for the 2 watersheds.Successful completion of Multi-stakeholders’ initiatives on springshed Springshed Management

Permaculture based approach

Under the slogan “Grow local, eat organic” the Department has initiated the following: Permaculture is a natural based solution that synchronizes ecological integrity with economic development for a resilient and sustainable rural livelihood through three core ethics: Earth Care, People Care and Fair share. The state government has supported the department under untied fund for Permaculture based approach

Promotion of Tisane/NaturaI Teas

Butterfly Pea, Rosella, Ginger, Sumac, Cinnamon & Gooseberry teas are being promoted across the state. Advantages of these teas are varied; low capital investment being endemic to the state, superior in quality because it is organic & has various health benefits, less labor intensive and processing with high returns. AGAR DEVELOPMENT

The State Government has supported the department under untied fund for procurement and distribution of about 33,000 no. of agar sapling covering 2(two) districts . It has brought additional area coverage of about 23 Ha. under agar plantation during the year

ARECANUT DEVELOPMENT

The state government has supported the department under untied fund for procurement and distribution of about 1 , 13,000 No. of arecanut saplings covering 6 (six) districts. It has brought additional area coverage of about 80 Ha. under arecanut plantation during the year bringing the total area under arecanut plantation in the state to 1 ARECANUT DEVELOPMENT

Coffee Development

During 2021 , new area developed under coffee is 835.7 Ha. bringing the total area under coffee plantation in the state to 9,832.2 Ha. Given below are the highlights of the achievement during the year: Under RIDF-XXIV, the department has promoted 245 Ha. of coffee plantation covering all the districts. This has led to settled Coffee Development

Rubber Development

The total area under rubber stands at 19, 132.5 Ha. as of 2021. Currently, 4,989 Ha. have been brought under tapping producing about 15,700 MT of latex annually. Remaining 14,100 Ha. of rubber plantation have attained maturity, creating the need for approx. 6,378 numbers of rubber sheet rollers. More focus is being given to post Rubber Development
