ESTABLISHMENT OF NSSAA, SAU NAGALAND

Social Audit Unit (SAU), Nagaland under Society for Training & Research on Rural Development (STRORD), State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) was launched by the Rural Development Department, Government of Nagaland on 31st of March, 2013 to conduct social audit of its flagship programme MGNREGS. Since its inception, along with the conduct of Social Audit, concerted initiatives were undertaken for awareness generation, trainings and capacity building for the stakeholders across Nagaland. Pilot phase social audit was conducted during Financial Year 2015-16 in 4 Gram Panchayats under Kohima and Dimapur Districts under MGNREGS. Subsequently over the years, SAU Nagaland has been conducting social audits in all the districts of Nagaland as per the planned-out calendar every Financial Year.

At present, Social Audit Unit has been independently registered under Societies Registration (Nagaland Third Amendment) Act, 2008 vide order No. HOME-SRC/8159/2022 as Nagaland State Social Audit Agency (NSSAA). Apart from MGNREGS, the NSSAA, Social Audit Unit, Nagaland has taken up social audits for the Schemes- PM Poshan erstwhile MDM programme under Department of School Education, Samagra Shiksha Scheme under Nagaland Education Mission Society, Social Audit of Schemes under Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE), National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) under Social Welfare Department & Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) under Rural Development Department. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for conduct of Social Audit.

To ensure and promote transparency and accountability in the implementation of the programme, strengthening local governance and complement formal audit process

AREA OF OPERATION

The area of operation of the society shall extend to the whole of Nagaland.

SCOPE

The Society facilitates the conduct of Social Audit to ensure proper implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the State of Nagaland, as mentioned in the guidelines of the programme, and such other activities pertaining to and revolving around Social Audit.
